This Malbec-dominant Bordeaux-style blend (Petit Verdot and a touch of Merlot make up the rest) is from one of Margaret River's founding estates. It walks a much leaner line than Cullen's other reds, perhaps due to the cool, rainy 2017 vintage. Aromas of raspberry, cranberry, potpourri, vanillin and toffee lead into a palate that's wound tightly with sappy tannins and lifted by slightly biting acidity. There's a purity of fruit that is a hallmark of this biodynamic producer, but, for now anyway, there's a generosity and balance that isn't quite there.
